a lot of the gold tones you see are produced using glazes over 12 carat silver leaf, but gold leaf is also used to give different gold tones

This piece commission by Tobias Oliver Interiors really pushed my studio to the limits. I had to disassemble a storage area to fit it in. 375cm W x 200cm H

I sent my client pictures showing the progress of this piece and they liked the shadows cast on the top and bottom so much that we incorporated them into the finished piece (see next image)

Inspired by the zen practice of Ensō where the artist freely or paints a circle. These poured plaster and gilded pieces represent uninhibited creation.

Patinated silver leaf. Yes it really is silver! This is one of the methods which was used to imitate gold leaf. 70cm x 70cm

A golden hue is given to the silver leaf with chemicals. 70cm x 70cm

Split Pyrite

Pyrite "sun" disks form the inspiration here. The original pieces had a central disk with texture radiating outwards over a backdrop of luxurious venetian polished plaster. My recent pieces have used a cast "sun disc" because this form of pyrite is found in only one place - the Sparta mine in Illinois, U.S.A which has now closed

Firestick Mosaic

Textured metal leaf overlaidd with rich glazes and patination create an organic and antediluvian vista. Inspired by a a method of grass burning employed by the aboriginal people of Australia which regenerated growth whilst limiting the progress of naturally occuring bush fires

This piece used a background of deep reds to represent the colour of armenian bole clay used in traditional gilded frames and furniture. 22 carat gold is used over the top and rubbed through to reveal the colour beneath. 180cm W x 120cm H
